Converting an attic into a master bedroom suite in Arlington, VA

Description

How to enlarge a small suburban house without building an expensive addition? How about this conversion of an existing attic into a master suite with lots of light and stylish details.

The 45-degree angle of the roof has become an overall feature, repeated throughout the suite in different forms. A central boxed skylight brings light both to the entire space and to an enclosed bathroom/bar, which serves as a divider between sleeping and dressing areas. Extra closets, with concealed doors are located along the walls.

Designed by Architect Hector J. Alvarez. Built by owner Carlos Santoyo and McPherson Remodeling.
